Drilling a side bore holesmile At last, some good news about water!
Here are three reports from Thirumaran:

Contributions from our regular supporters, the result of a GiftAid claim and some generous one-off gifts have enabled the extra well depth to be paid for and a side bore hole to be added. This and the rain finally arriving have meant that the children have water again.

Thirumaran writes (30 October): "And a happy news! When I received the money from UK Support Group, I arranged for a “Side Bore Hole” in the Children's Home well. Now we are getting water for the children, trees and for everyday usage. It is a surprise - we did it for 300 feet towards south side at about 60 feet depth. Good yield! So for the next one year there will be no water scarcity. Next year we can deepen it for 5 to ten feet and if we make a side bore hole in a different direction then perhaps we can get a permanent solution. I cannot forget the people taking our problems on their shoulders and helping us to run the children homes.

Thirumaran writes: (6 Sept) "Wells are becoming dry. Farmers have no water for agriculture. The price of vegetables is going high. For example one kilo of onions costs 100 Rs. it never happened in my life time. 5 to 25 Rs is the normal cost.
We are having a big problem for drinking water at both the children homes. Every day we are buying 5 tanks of water for daily usage costing 1000 Rs.
Finally we are deepening our well at the Children Home to try to get more water. We are just going to deepen it for 10 feet. (8 Sept: The team have agreed to dig an extra two feet for the children without further payment.) The existing depth is 48 feet. We remember the days when we start the well project (click to read about an earlier project and see what water can do) and the great people who helped us to dig the well at our children home.

The cost for deepening it for another 10 feet is 1,80,000 Rs (about £1800 at today's exchange rate). This is 15 days work. Labour, dynamite, tractor, crane everything included in it. As usual we went for a loan and started this work. We are happy. Yes! We have to be happy to keep the children happy! Bless the children. Send your wishes for getting a good yield. That’s enough."

Thirumaran writes: (27 July) "Finding water for the new Boys Home is a big and urgent problem.
This attempt, unfortunately, wasn't successful.
Today we finished a 6 inch bore well for 800 feet at TRUST BOYS’ home. Sad! No water. There is a big water scarcity. Loss of money. It will take some days to come out from this mood. Sorry to inform you, sorry! I know we cannot expect anything always positively from the earth.

The only pleasure is that today is Sunday and our children enjoyed the bore well machine, seeing it drilling. There was lots of eagerness, and all the kids become “white kids” because of the powder that came out from the rock.

I don’t know how we are going to get through this this July, August, September and half of the October. Big water scarcity!

In future we have to dig a well at the Boys Home and make some side bores so that like a tank we can have some water even in the summer.  At the TRUST Children Home the well dried. We have to deepen it. That is the solution. If we deepen it for 20 feet that will help us even in summer season.
