Banu PriyaVery exciting news: Banu Priya is going to be married! She is so happy!

Thirumaran writes (19 Sept 2013): “The first wedding ceremony is going to happen quickly at TRUST Children Home. We are all so happy to inform you. I personally feel it is like the ‘Next Step’.

“The girl is our Banu Priya. Now she is working as a nurse in a private hospital. She’s a nice girl with good patience, lovely with the other children, active, good in Taekwondo and all. As she is not so good in studies (she failed in 10th std) we arranged to clear the papers through private study. Then we put her in our TRUST Community College where she finished her one-year diploma in nursing and we were able to arrange a job for her.

“The man going to marry her is Mr. Gomathi Nayagam. He belongs to a place which is 20kms from our village. One week ago he came to me straightaway and explained that he want to marry a helpless girl staying at our children home. He belongs to a forward community and he doesn’t bother about community. Our girl belongs to a backward caste. And he never demanded any money as a dowry. The boy is a government servant, working in electricity department. He is 35+ and Banu is 23+.

“Dowry and caste are 2 big problems in India.

“Today the boy, his mother, father and friends came to our children home to fix the marriage. It is a formal thing. We exchanged plates with fruits, coconut, betal leaf, sandal and all.

“Banu is so happy. I asked her concurrence first. The marriage will be in a month time. We need this time to make all the other arrangements (a few gold jewels like a chain, ring, earring, bangle). These are basic things for a girl to enter her husband’s house. As it is an arranged marriage we have to fulfill these formalities. Then there must be some cooking vessels for starting her life. Then invitations, a feast for the guests and children and decorations! I don’t think too much of these expenditures because it the first good thing going to happen at our children home. Also it is an “experimental method”.
