There has been a serious shortage of water through 2013. Read about the progress of this project and how you could help...
"There is a big drought. No rain. No one expected this fail of rain." There is a well (60 ft deep) at the Children's Home with 4 feet of water in it... three years ago the water overflowed in the rainy season. This project is to provide a well at the Boys' Home, making use of an existing pit (just outside the Boys' Home compound wall) and digging it deeper.
A substantial gift from a UK charitable trust has enabled a start to be made. This will cover about a third of the estimated cost.
Can you help too? If you are able and would like to help with this project please click here to make a gift with your card or send a cheque payable to TRUSTchildren Support Group UK to TRUST, 25 North Street, Winterborne Stickland, Blandford DT11 0NJ. Thank you.
1 Jan 2014: A start has been made on a well for the Boys' Home. Thirumaran writes: "Today is a wonderful day. We have all assembled near the “well digging spot”. Tea, biscuits had been served for children at 6.30 a.m. tomorrow the winches will be fixed and the work will be started on Jan 1, 2014. Today I am paying initially for the digger. The work will be finished before 30th March, 2014 and we have to settle the full amount before that."
9 Jan 2014: The well digging is making progress. Just ten days in. Most of the depth in the photos is the existing pit but it's possible to begin to see the extra depth and shape of the new well.
13 Mar 2014: There is now a big hole (see pictures below). The money for the workers had run out - but just before they were laid off, support from a generous trust has enabled the digging to continue. The serious drought continues.
7 April 2014: Courageous women volunteers
Thirumaran writes: "58 years old Mrs.Dawn and her daughter Miss.Kathryn (25 yrs old) both visited our children home as volunteers from England. With lot of courage and valour they went by crane to see the depth of the well being dug at TRUST BOYS’ HOME. (I know it is really dangerous to take the women in.) It is now 45 feet deep. We three went in. Huge well! Since 1-1-2014 the work is going on. Big project!"
