The crisis at the Girls' Home ends sadly after a very stressful time.
Very sadly, it has not proved possible to re-open the Girls' Home, in spite of the positive response from senior officials from the state capital. If this is the first you have read about this, please also read the background in previous articles here.
After a great deal of stress and worry, Thirumaran and his family have decided that although it seems very likely that a court order to require the local Children’s Services team to renew the registration of the Girls’ Home would be obtainable, it would be unrealistic to continue to operate a Home in such an adversarial way.
The Boys' Home is not affected. The boys are happy and the Home continues as before. It is in a different location in the village. Our Support Group will continue to support the boys - thank you for your continued interest and donations. Your support makes a real and immediate difference to the lives of these children.
The original Children's Home premises (where the girls were looked after) has been repurposed by Thirumaran as TRUST Old Age Home to look after destitute older people. Our Support Group is constituted as a charity to provide support for children and so your donations will not be applied to this worthy project. Thirumaran is very conscious of all the support which funded the buildings that have made TRUST Children’s Home (later the Girls' Home) possible and it is important to him to give them this new life as TRUST Old Age Home.
If you've visited TRUST you may recognise the entrance to the Children's Home, now 're-branded' TRUST Old Age Home. The many girls who have been looked after at TRUST Children's Home since 2005 have been given a great start in life when it looked very bleak for them. Many have gone on to further education and jobs such as nursing and teaching. A good number are now married.
